Susan Vanderwood

Teacher/Choreographer

Susan Vanderwood has danced with passion her entire life. She started dancing in earnest 46 years ago at Northeastern University under Sandy Hagen, a protege of Luigi. Susan continued studying and performing in many states. She performed in Boston with The Steam Heat Dancers and the Duggan Dancers, in New York City with Nat Horne’s Musical Dance Theater Company and the New Jersey Rockettes, in Dallas with Collin Dance Consortium, in California with the March of Dimes, and in Eugene with the Oregon Dance Theatre.

She performed in musicals, stage shows, sports arenas, nightclubs, movies and the Disco Awards show.

 

She arrived on Whidbey in 1993 to raise seven children and started teaching at Island Dance. She was director for Island Dance competition team for 10 years, choreographed for WIDT, the Nutcracker, WICA, high school musicals, and children’s shows. Susan loves teaching for all ages and hopes to impart the passion that has never left her.
