IDS welcomes Canadian Residents and International Students to their Pre-professional and Professional Training Programsimage

Bridge Program

Island Dance Studio and Ballet Victoria have joined in a collaborative partnership to provide a unique post secondary training opportunity for dedicated students wishing to pursue a career in professional dance.

This program is designed for the young professional dancer to bridge the gap between formal training and the professional world. This demanding program allows the student to continue full time training in classical ballet with renowned teachers, dancers and examiners while experiencing the day to day routines of a professional company.>/

Students participate in morning company class and spend the remainder of the day rehearsing with the company. The training portion of the day commences after company rehearsals cease and is focused on continuing to build a strong technical foundation in classical ballet, pointe, variations, as well as modern, contemporary and jazz styles. At the discretion of the Artistic Director of Ballet Victoria, selected students may have the opportunity to take on corps roles in a number of Ballet Victoria’s current season, which allows invaluable professional performance experience.

The program is designed to encourage aspiring students to learn in a Mentorship capacity, and experience the day to day operations of the company. By working with renowned choreographers, exploring differing methods of choreography, exposure to guest artists, and working to perfect technique, students will benefit from a seamless transition into the professional world, once formal training is complete.

Studies Include:

  • Daily Company class and rehearsals with Ballet Victoria
  • Daily technique classes and pointe work at an advanced level, allowing time to refine technique and develop artistry
  • Additional Jazz, Modern, Repertoire, Body Conditioning classes
  • Over 30 hours of training per week
  • Nutrition for dancers
  • CV writing and career planning
  • Cecchetti Examinations and competitions if desired
  • Performance opportunities with Ballet Victoria and Island Dance Studio
  • ESL classes if requested for International Students
  • Work towards Professional Teacher Training Qualifications through the ISTD (Cecchetti) should a dancer decide to consider this career path.

Due to a limited number of selected participants, this program is able to offer essential individual attention, small classes for maximum growth, personalized programs, careful professional instruction and the opportunity to feel a part of a working company.
